Folk Art for Everyone

Sunday 29th November, 1 - 3:30pm
11 Hopper Street

What is folk art? What does craft by the people for the people look like? This playful workshop brings together discussion and craft as we navigate the history of folk art and how we can draw folk art practices into our lives to help us navigate contemporary challenges and build brighter futures.

Participants will work through exercises where we tune into our own experiences of life, place, ancestry and imagery, culminating in developing a hand carved stamp and workbook zine which you can carry with you into your crafty summer adventures.

Monica/Mo Dix is an interdisciplinary folk artist passionate about gathering to create things alongside each other, for our spaces and our communities. An immigrant to Aotearoa from Minowaking, Turtle Island (Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA) with ancestors from eastern Europe, their workshops draw on blending these identities with craft traditions from Aotearoa to cultivate joy, connection and care to face uncertain futures.

A portion of all generous tier tickets go towards free workshops for community organisations like the Wellington Women's House.
