Knitwear Design and Pattern Making

Sunday 13th December, 10:30am - 3pm
11 Hopper St

Ever wanted to create your own knitting patterns or express yourself with one-of-kind garments? Is understanding knitting patterns a bit daunting? Want to level up from squares and rectangles? Need a summer holiday craft project? This workshop with guest artist Indigo Paul will empower you with the skills and tools you need to do just that. You’ll get the most out of this workshop if you’re a knitter who can confidently make a simple scarf and are wanting to up-skill, or a confident at following patterns and want to get into making your own. During the workshop we will bring a 3D garment idea into a 2D pattern, swatch for gauge, and start knitting. We will also cover how to join pieces, troubleshoot, and talk about how you will finish your garment after the workshop.

Attendees are encouraged to bring a selection of their own yarn and needles, but we will also have supplies available for those who need them.

With four hours of contact time and a lunch break to decompress in the middle, we will go slowly through each step of the process so you feel fully supported to bring your creation to life! By the end of the workshop, participants will have a complete pattern drafted and will have started on their pieces, going home with all they need to complete their knit.

Indigo Paul is a lover of all things fibre-crafts, but knitting was her first love. Teaching herself from a book at age eleven, Indigo was intent on creating clothes that no one else would be wearing, but it took a few more years (a decade) before she was able to design garments with complex geometry. She is very excited to be able to share her process for imagining and designing knitwear with the Micro Mill community.

A portion of all generous tier tickets goes towards free workshops for community organisations like the Wellington Women's House.
