Thistle Hall Meeting Room, 293 Cuba Street, Te Aro, Te Whanganui a Tara
This class is cared for by the whimsical Aisha, a multidisciplinary artist with a passion for empowering the mending process. For two Wednesday evenings each month, Aisha will introduce us to a different technique for reviving our beloved textile pieces. If you're like us and have a box of clothing in need of repairs that never seems to empty... this is the club for you. In this reoccurring workshop we'll inspire each other to creatively care for those pieces we love! This club is also perfect for anyone who loves learning new skills. Techniques we'll cover are lino printing, patching, darning, felting, embroidery, beading, sashiko, fabric painting and more! All materials and tools are supplied at each class - but you are welcome to bring your own. We highly encourage bringing those clothes or other textile items that need some love and repair.
There is no need to attend every class. We can catch you up on the skill at which ever class you choose to join us at. There are single class tickets or monthly sign ups available. Both of these have variable pricing options, unwaged/student, waged, and generous. Please choose whichever option feels right for you and your circumstances!
When it comes to the clothes we love, every rip, stain, and imperfection is an invitation to exercise agency, expression, and an opportunity to show the garment how much we appreciate it.
Up coming classes
November - Felting
Felting is best utilised to mend holes in wool textiles (knitted or woven), but it can be achieved on most knits and thicker woven fabrics.
Class 01: 12th November
Best practise and technique for felting over holes.
Class 02:  26th November
Revisiting good technique for felt mending holes, continuing with felting practice, completing designs.
December - Textile repairs of all kinds!
Final Workshop of 2025: 10th December
At this class we'll have all our tools and materials available for you to work on any textile repairs or upcycling projects! If there was a technique you missed out on this is your chance to learn! We'll have the opportunity for patching, sashiko and felting. Lino printing will not be available at this class as the space is not suitable for this. Keep an eye out for another lino cut & print workshop in December at Toi Pōneke.
