Art of Your Ancestors
Sunday 30th November
1pm - 3pm
Hataitai Community Centre (the old bowls club)
157 Hataitai road
Artists (+creative people) of any media! Come join us for a Sunday afternoon of coziness, connection and reflection for this discussion-oriented workshop. Drawing on their journey of searching for ancestral connection through folk art practice, Mo will weave together opportunities for participants to reflect on their own ancestry and practice, sharing their experiences and ultimately holding space to brainstorm and dream together about our journeys.
A sampling of things we will be getting curious about: What does it look like to bring ancestral values/materials/techniques into what I create? How can I process my journey of reflection/healing with these ideas through creative practice?
The intention is that participants in this workshop will go forth and experiment over the summer, gathering in autumn together for another afternoon or meal to reflect on our experience together in a supported environment.
Note- Mo will be drawing on their experiences with immigration and Eastern European-American ancestry. All experiences are welcome, and while this workshop is rooted in decolonial ideas it is not taught from an indigenous perspective.
